Sexual Health in Higher Ed

http://www.thestateofeducation.com/research/college-sexual-health

A group called The State of Education rated campuses for sexual health based on the following criteria:

I. 2014 County STD Rate
II. Average Annual Campus Sexual Assault Rate
III. Campus Sexual Health and Education Resources
     A. Contraceptive Availability
     B. Condom Availability
     C. STD Testing Options
     D. Sexual Assault Services and Resources
     E. Hours of Operation
     F. Web Content Quality

However, some may argue that the campus may not necessarily be similar to the county it is in with respect to STD rate, and that reporting of sexual assaults may not be consistent from one campus to another, making comparisons across campuses unreliable.

… … …

They used the COUNTY STD rate? What a dumb, pointless measure.

Nope. I can’t even get past this. We have absolutely ZERO evidence that STD rates and sex crimes have increased on campus. Their REPORTING has increased- and thank zeus for that. There is actually evidence that sex crimes have DECREASED.

I literally just picked a random paragraph to read to see if the post got any better:

My freshmen wouldn’t even get away with this conclusion.
They could get away with “this suggests that these may be a correlation between students’ breaks and blah blah blah but further research is needed.”

I looked around for contact information so I could figure out who is spouting this nonsense but came up blank. There is an anonymous contact form but that’s it.

The county? So the rating for Columbia is based, in part, on the sexual assault rate in all of Manhattan? Huh?

And U of Chicago and Northwestern are based on all of Cook County? Agree. Dumb.

They might as well do a study of gun violence “on campus” and use the South Side’s shooting rate and apply it to Northwestern in Evanston, miles away.

While I understand that their are ignorants who write this drivel, what I don’t understand is the mentality of blog editors who actually publish it.
