Got New York Magazine in the mail today (Dont know why) and decided to read an article that caught my eye. Has anyone else read it/what did you think?

I think that article was very shocking especially the "cuddle puddle" thing. That kind of stuff doesn't normally happen at your average high school...at least not mine.

That group seems like a fun bunch of people. And I'm not even talking about their sexual activities - their conversations are hilarious too. Must've been awkward for the author, but it was probably enjoyable.

It practically takes a diagram to plot all the various hookups and connections within the cuddle puddle. Elles kissed Jane and Janes kissed Alair and Alairs kissed Elle. And then from time to time Elle hooks up with Nathan, but really only at parties, and only when Bethany isnt around, because Nathan really likes Bethany, who doesnt have a thing for girls but doesnt have a problem with girls who do, either. Alairs hooking up with Jason (who kind of went out with Jane once), even though she sort of also has a thing for Hector, who Jane likes, toothough Jane thinks its totally boring when people date people of the same gender. Ilia has a serious girlfriend, but girls were hooking up at his last party, which was awesome. Molly has kissed Alair, and Janes ex-girlfriend first decided she was bi while staying at Mollys beach house on Fire Island. Sarah sometimes kisses Elle, although she has a boyfriendhe doesnt care if she hooks up with other girls, since shes straight anyway. And so on.

I wonder how long it took the author to sift through that one.

there was an article in they new york times about these mini clubs taht are opening for teens. the clubs don't serve alcohol. the article noted that many new york kids were chilling in real clubs with fake id's at the age of 13. new york is amazing.

man i was gonna read that this year until I decided to drop crit. reading cause i couldn't handle it.
(prays it fits in my schedule next year... cause I'm not giving up directing)

My old group of friends is kinda like that. Without [most of the] the promiscuity, though. My class's only decloseted gay is in the group now but makes out with girls (including his cousin o_o) freely.

Haha, I'm so glad I wasn't the only person thinking that. I'm probably as dissimilar as you can get and the entire time I was like, "They seem like they would be interesting people to talk to..."

Well-written article; it takes quite a bit to get me through seven pages of highschool-ness. I wonder how many parents freaked out reading that.

Reading this last year, I would have been a little wierded out. I have attended Catholic schools for my entire life and am now at an all male Jesuit highschool. Trust me, not much of that going on here...well not that I have seen.

Going to debate camp, though, has really desensitized me to that kind of thing. I was in a group of people, about 7 or 9, last year that would all sleep in the same bed--well two beds pushed together. People would come and go with lectures, workshops, practice debates, etc. Nothing as excentric as that article, but it is a real culture shock being exposed to it after years of sheltering.

I, personally, believe it's a good thing. I wrote a paper for a catholics ethics class about expressing sexuality, the ambivalent messages in society on the subject, etc. I think Freud had it right, even if the majority of the academic world doesn't

I'm in the same boat, parochial school from K-8, all guys Jesuit school for high school. At first I thought the idea of no girls at school was weird, then I felt I got used to it, and now I'm like "Man, it would've been nice if there were girls at school." Though some of the jokes/conversations we have would be frowned upon if girls were on campus - so I guess we're a bit freer in that sense.

That bias about bi's (particularly females) being sluts/promiscuous is unfairly true. It really sucks, but if that's what people think...can't stop them.

It would be entertaining to find out what happens when they get to college in 1.5 years. And I wish my parents were like Alair's parents. They adore their daughter as a person, and find her fun and charming to hang out with... Nice...
