SFS Academic Question

I am a HS sophomore who gets A's in HN/AP history, science, and English courses, while I struggle to get B+'s in HN math. I'm all for challenge, but I don't know if it's really worth it. I'm confident I could get an A in regular pre-Calc next year, but how would SFS look upon a non-advanced math class? I'm taking Calc AB senior year regardless of whether I take HN or regular pre-Calc junior year.

I’m in the SFS and my math track was Geometry, Trig, Pre Calc, and AB. I’d say it’s fine.

@CSIHSIS were they HN or regular courses?

Trig and Pre Calc were called “honors” but there weren’t non honors versions of them, so it was just a way for my school to make itself sound better.

Any other input?

I did Algebra 1 (8th grade - counted for HS credit), Geometry, Algebra 2 with Trig, and Pre-calc. I’m not taking a math class this year, but kinda-sorta “made up for it” with AP Micro- and Macroeconomics, as well as honors physics. We don’t have honors math classes at my school. You should be fine, especially for SFS where you really don’t need to do anything special with STEM to get in!

Yeah, don’t take the honors pre-calc. Keep your grades up.

I was in your position as well. After 9th grade I got a B and a C in precalc but I made sure to get an 800 on the subject test. I then took Calculus the next year and got two Cs but a 4 on the AP test. My school had a notoriously hard precalc teacher that was brilliant, so I took it for the learning experience as much as anything. I just hope colleges see that I put unnecessarily hard challenges on myself for something I’m not good at.
