Now that the application period is over, do you know when they’re going to start sending out results?
A little impatient, I know. I kind of want to apply to a back-up program in case, but it’s a lot of work and I’d like to avoid doing so unless I have to.
Ontario. How about you? It’s kind of late for me to apply for MITES (doubt I’d get in anyway, haha), and I’m not sure what other reasonably-priced programs they have for internationals in the states. What are you looking to apply to?
I’m kind of nervous. I received the bursary form but idk if it means anything?
I’m from Ontario too! I’m looking towards a couple of math camps such as Stanford’s Sumac program or the Canada/USA mathcamp (because i’m stronger in math than in science). I’m going into grade 11 not 12 next year so a bunch of options (such as internships) aren’t available to me yet.
But to be honest, most people get accepted to shad (with a good scholarship too). And you’ll have enough time after results come out to find something else to do.
I’m a sophomore from Vancouver, BC. My counsellor strongly discouraged applying early because she said it’s harder to get in, but I went ahead anyhow…
I’m satisfied with the application I had submitted. I just wish it’s enough to get me in. I’m trying not to expect too much because I know I will be heartbroken if (or when?) I get a rejection.
Decisions should be released in a week or two. Personally, I just want to know ASAP so I can just move on with my life if I get rejected, or breathe properly if I get accepted.
As far as back up summer plans go, I don’t have any…
I’m honestly feeling the exact same way right now. I’m so nervous about this decision that I’m actually putting off thinking about any other summer programs until after I get my result (they all have later application deadlines). I guess my backup plans include volunteering and studying for SATs…
And I’m a sophomore too. I don’t think there should be a huge advantage for those applying in Grade 11. I’m satisfied with my application but I wish I had applied earlier/started my essay earlier because I was rushing to finish and get it edited within the last 24 hours of the deadline.
Hi there! I’m new to this forum site but I was interested in what you guys are saying. @cottoncandy24 what do you mean most of the people get accepted? I’m pretty anxious right now and I guess any words of encouragement you say would make me feel a bit more calm
I heard it was a 50% chance. Not really sure what that means because I have no idea about the calibre of the applicant pool. Less than two weeks left before we find out, though!
@crimes oh I see. I spent this morning reading a couple other forums and some people said it was an 85% chance?!?!? I’m just really excited and anxious to hear the results. Like @BlueRibbonExec said it best, I just wanna know my results ASAP so I can move on if I don’t get accepted or finally becoming relieved of this “anxious waiting pain” if I do get in.
@BeOriginal Well, from all of the people who I know who have applied in previous years, they’ve all gotten in first try (and by that I mean not through a waitlist or anything). Some of them were extremely talented (accepted to Harvard) and some of them were pretty average people :p. Also, my friend from another school mentioned that the admission process “isn’t even competitive” but, of course, I’m not sure about how the process works at all.
Anyways, if the admission rate is 85% then yay for us! But a statistic that I’ve seen on multiple websites is that 600 people are chosen from about 1100 applicants.
@cottoncandy24 Oh I see what you mean… and haha I was really surprised to find out about the 85% rate but what you said about 600/1100 is what I’ve known about ever since I applied so I think you’re right I seriously cannot wait gahhhh!! It’s just a matter of a couple more days
If any of you guys know, do they accept 50 into each campus or around 60? Because with 60 accepted into each campus, the total number of those accepted would be 720!
@BlueRibbonExec I have checked previous forums ever since I applied and even before (I’m a little obsessed whoops) but I discovered that in like 2011,2012,2013 the dates were around 11-14. However, I was eager to see that last year it was a lot earlier, Feb. 7!!! So I’m not sure if that’s what they plan on doing, making the wait shorter for us from now on or maybe it was just for last year. Either way I’ve been checking my email 24/7 and I think I’m getting kinda scared and worried
@BeOriginal You sound a lot like me! I’ve been obsessively looking through their student blogs, which is NOT helping me at all. The more I get attached to Shad, the more heartbroken I will be if I get rejected.
What do you think your chances are? Are you happy with the application you had submitted?
@BlueRibbonExec I totally understand how you’re feeling! I know the more attached I get the more heartbroken I’ll be (like you said) but I’m just too obsessed!! To be honestly, sometimes I feel like I have a good shot but then I see how crazy talented people from previous years were and my hope dies down (though now I kinda wanna diminish my hope just so it’ll soften the blow if I don’t get in). My avg. last year was 92 and this year it was 98… but my ecs aren’t as good as other peoples’ I’ve seen. My essays probably weren’t as good as those people who got like 1000000 people to edit it because I completely forgot about that. But I do think what I actually wrote about was okay… like my leadership I think I did fine on and the activities one is on one of my karate experiences… I’m hoping that’s okay too. It’s the creative I’m weary about because I’m not sure if I wrote about something “creative”… and my why SHAD was just average lol… So I’m pretty worried about this and I’m having many doubts especially seeing all those people with like hundreds of awards and awesome ecs
Mine came!! Accepted, ahhhhh! :))))
It was so weird considering I didn’t even get the email, the package just came to my house! Anyways, so excited to choose my campuses and be part of SHAD in general!
