Sharpening your brain for a fully loaded semester.

Hey guys,

I recently transferred to an engineering school and as a transfer student am behind.

I want to graduate in 4 years so I took a huge course load for the coming semester to catch up.

Just wondering about all the little things I can do to help my brain stay sharp for and during the coming semester.

And by little things I mean:

What types of food to consume (I hear fish is good for the brain)?

Whether to take multivitamins (if they actually do something)?

Whether or not to try and stay disinterested in girls?

Whether or not to listen to a lot of music (which can be a distraction at times)?

How many hours to sleep? Sleep once a day for about 8 hrs? Or twice for four hours (I hear this works for some people)?

Whether or not play video games (which can or cannot stimulate the brain when bored, and prime it for study (what to do you guys think))?

Plus whatever else you guys can come up with. Thanks!

If this is the first semester after the transfer, you might want to lighten up on the load. There are lots of students that take a lot of courses and then do poorly on them and wind up taking longer than usual. Summer is a better time to catch up. Your GPA can suffer from taking too many courses too.

As far as sleep goes - make sure that it’s restful and establish a pattern of rest.

Stay healthy, dont get sick and get full sleep is about the best regimen for surviving a tough courseload. as for food, you can never tell these days, so just eat healthily. anything further than that is mostly superstition and unfounded imho.

Here’s my suggestions: (Pick and choose which ones you like)

Live on campus because someone cooks for you and you don’t have dishes.

Avoid girls, they take time and money, which you’ll have neither of this quarter.

You may discover you can get by with only 4 hours of sleep. Or you may discover that you need more.

Video games will take time, which you won’t have much of this quarter. I’d get out and do some exercise and breathe some fresh air in your scant time off.

Make sure you have some time for a hobby. I did coin collecting my busiest year in college because I didn’t have time to plan out anything on the weekend and found it relaxing to sort through coins on Friday nights.

Eat a bunch of smarties. Sugar is good for your brain. I’m not even playing around this time.

Processed sugar is bad for you…

But good for the brain. I swears it.

They are called smarties…

yea, just like diet coke actually makes you lose weight…

i think you are in the right frame of mind.
