I don’t think you need an RX here to get the Shingrix shot…if they have it.
So @jym626 any flu like symptoms?

You don’t need the Rx— I just happened to have it and she wanted to make a copy of it.
Funny- the arm with the flu shot is sore. The one with the shingrix isnt bad— at least now.
A little off topic, but i got my flu shot yesterday too and my arm is sore! It was sore right after the shot. I never had a problem getting a flu shot before and having a sore arm. Wonder if something different is about it this year?
I see jym626 has a sore arm too from the flu shot…
I’m getting the shingles shot this afternoon, which I am dreading. I hate shots, and my husband (who hardly ever reacts to anything) got sick from both shingles doses (weakness and flu-ish). I have a couple of days where I can afford to not feel 100%, so I’m going to get to Walgreens this afternoon. I called and was surprised they had it in!
I didn’t feel sick after the 1st Shingrix shot, but my arm was sore for 5 days. Unfortunately, that’s no guarantee I won’t feel sick with the 2nd shot.
Got the shot at Walgreen’s and didn’t have to pay anything. I thought I would have to pay and file with insurance, but I didn’t. Shot hurt a little more than the flu shot but I survived. We’ll see how I do as far as feeling sick or the arm hurting. A guy I work with had absolutely no effects- not even sore arm- but his wife’s arm was sore for 5 days.
@seeksknowledge - yes, the arm that got the flu shot was sore right away. The shingrix was a little uncomfortable but not terrible. I took some tylenol this morning as I was helping a friend pack things in her house today (getting ready for an estate sale and putting things in storage). Worried that I’d be sore but it really is minor. And no flu symptoms… so far. Hoping there won’t be any.
Medicare Part D does cover shingrix, but his copayment will depend on which drug plan he chooses.
Correct. We did not have any prescriptions for shingrix, just kept calling around to find a store that had it and went over immediately. (We also talked our way onto multiple wait lists and when someone called, we dropped everything and got over there.)
I have Express Scripts. They don’t cover a dime of the Shingrix vaccine. At all.
DH’s part D plan covers the shingrix vaccine, but the cost would all go toward deductible, so that’s why it will cost him $160 to get.
I have more than met my RX deductible. The Shingrix shot is not covered by my Express Scripts Plan. I know a gaggle of others with the identical plan I have. They had to pay out of pocket as well.
Don’t know yet what the shot will cost. They will file the insurance and bill me for te balance (but yes, probably will go to deductible).
I would pay $500 a shot if I had to. I never want to go through what DH and my grandmother did.
Have you gotten it yet, @ML? Anyone 50 and older can get the 2 doses (if they are available).
I got both shots and both were free; my arm hurt for several weeks after the first shot but didn’t hurt at all after the second. However, I did get a fever and various flu like symptoms for +/- 24hrs
@jym626, I got it the second it was available.
I’ve been getting my flu shot at Riteaid Pharmacy and it hasn’t been very sore at all. My H said his arm hurt. So I don’t know why it hurts for some people and not others.
The Shingrix shot hurt worse the second time I think. It was only a bit tender on the first day, but the arm was hurting when I lifted it, and there was swelling at the injection site on the second day. I took Aleve and rubbed arnica oil on my arm and it seemed to help.
I also had a headache, nausea, chills, and was tired.
Just got the flu shot Wednesday a.m. no pain. But still can’t find 2nd shingles shot.
I got the flu shot Wednesday and I felt a small amount of pain getting the shot and then my arm was sore for 3 days. Nothing really bad, just noticeable and a bit uncomfortable. First shingles shot tomorrow. A little nervous about soreness and/or not feeling well but hopeful that I’m not and, of course, well worth it in comparison to shingles.
^^ I was advised to take Advil right at the time of the shot- and then keep taking it.
