Mine were covered 100% by my work United Health Care and now Aetna.
Mine was covered 100% by my private insurance, but DH didn’t get his 2nd shot til he was on Medicare. It cost us $176.
When I checked, Shingrix list price was $159 to $182 per shot. The $159 was at Costco, but they had a waiting list, unlike some other with it in stock.
Strange. My second shot was covered by Original Medicare in full, but I have Plan F supplement. OTOH, I have teh cheapest Rx plan that I could find for my zip code.
DH has original Medicare, but the shot was covered by his Part D plan. He also has the cheapest drug plan, but has Plan G for Medicare.
These shots should be covered under Plan D and not original Medicare. Since I also have a cheaper RX plan, the shots are not covered or it is part of my $420 deductible since it is tier 3. I only have a plan that covers tier1 and tier2.
Maybe you haven’t met your 2020 deductible yet!
Last January I went to get the Shingrix shot. It would have been $170. But they didn’t have any!
By the time I got the shot in September, I had met all of my deductibles…and I paid $30. And I made sure I got the second shot before the end of 2019.
Correct.

I too have a deductible on my Part D, which I have never met since I don’t take any prescriptions, but shingrix was still covered 100%. (Perhaps bcos I went to a preferred network pharmacy?)
I will get my second shot in 2 weeks. First shot made my arm sore for 2 days. I’ll take a sore arm over actual Shingles any day. I had it once and do not want it again. My insurance covers it.
Mine was covered100% by my insurer. My H’s was covered by Medicare B and his insurer, as were my folks.
Just had my second shot, and it was a little easier than the first. I got it in the late afternoon, went out to see some music, and by 11 that night was running a fever. Spent most of Saturday morning in bed with fever and flu-like symptoms, but felt much better by late afternoon. So glad to be done with my shingles vaccines!
An online friend’s little boy just got diagnosed with shingles. He’s 7 or 8! He’d had the chicken pox vaccine, too. Very odd.
My D was in middle school when she had shingles. She was miserable and has chronic health issues.
The medical office we go to has shots in stock now. My husband got his first shot today (he had a terrible case a few months ago). I am scheduled to get my first shot on Friday.
May have had a symptomless chicken pox infection before or after the vaccine.
From what I have seen, the chicken pox vaccine reduces the risk of shingles significantly but does not eliminate it.
Darn, my doctor’s office is out of the vaccine. I need the second shot so now need to call around to see who does.
I was glad that I read this thread so I was prepared for my shingle shots. In general, I have high tolerance to pain. I have a flu shot every year without any issue.
I had my first shot over two month ago. I did not have a fever from it but my arm was sore for over a week. I was surprised it was that sore, that long!! Had my second shot yersterday. So far, it has given me a similar sore arm.
My employer’s health insurance covered those shots in full.
Well, my husband and I both had very sore arms. He had a bit of a fever the next day. I am feeling some nausea today, thinking it may be the shot.
I had a Zostamax vaccination in 2014 and had large, red, itch welt at the injection site for a week, but no other symptoms. Had my first Shingrix this past Monday morning. Immediate sore arm and by mid afternoon, I had a headache, low grade fever, tired, achey and just felt awful all over. Took me 2 days to get back to feeling not sick.
I got my shot at Walgreens. The pharmacist said they had just gotten in a new shipment and the shots we’re going fast. $20 copay on my medicare advantage plan.
Not looking forward to shot #2, but my SIL got shingles on her left torso/ribs and was out of work for 3 months. She still has pain 5 months later. My FIL got a case of shingles that put him in the hospital for nearly a week on IV narcotics. His doctor originally thought FIL was passing a kidney stone, then the rash appeared–a single blister on his back over his kidney. I’ll gladly take 2 day of feeling less than optimum over shingles.
