Shipping books to the dorm?

I'm not sure if the textbooks I order this week will come to my house on time, so can I have them shipped to my dorm address? Will it be OK if the books get there before move in day?

As long as you are careful to get your dorm address correct the mail room will hold your stuff till you show up. They are really used to a big surge of shipments early in the year.

so if we ship our books to our dorm address before we get to UVA, the mail room will have them for us on move-in day?

where do we go to get our keys for the mail room, or does the system work in another way?

have there been problems in the past, i.e. mail room not having the books that were supposed to come?

Yes, you can have them shipped to the dorm, just make sure you use the 9 digit zip code, it allows them to process the shipment quicker.

Yes, they will have them for you on move in day (they work all summer), you will also get an email when your package arrives.

There are no mail keys in new dorms (not sure about old dorms), you got the combination for the lock in your housing assignment.

No there haven’t been problems, the mail room is very efficient.

That’s not true, my friend shipped stuff to her dorm address and they told her they sent it back because she wasn’t in residence yet.

thanks, my bad about questioning everything, I just want to be certain my stuff doesn’t get lost

haha this is the place to ask your questions, ask away, if you ask anything outrageous someone will let you know ;)

just in case: old dorms mailroom is in kent(basement). last year we switched to keys(only one mail key per room, so you and your roommate have to figure out what to do with it). for packages however, they hold those separate from your mailbox and all you do is show your UVa ID and sign an electronic signature(verifying you received the package)

mailroom is actually Emmett in old dorms
