This may be a dumb question but are the shipping labels Tulane sends you for your boxes the only labels that go on the boxes? I havent looked closely at them but DH went to Fedex for more boxes (!) and showed the worker there. The worker claims to have never seen a label like that and that all boxes needed the fedex shipping label. Worker didnt know the function of the labels sent from Tulane. Are they only for tracking once they reach Tulane?

There should be detailed instructions with the labels. I don’t remember if the FedEx office put their usual label on it or not when I took it to be shipped, but maybe they did. For sure the labels they sent you do at least serve the function of helping them keep it all together so that when you go to retrieve it they know where to find it. There are at least 3 huge trucks parked on Newcomb Place, so this way they know which truck to send you to and where on that truck it is. Also, The way FedEx works is that after it goes through the main distribution point (usually Memphis), it then goes to a staging point near New Orleans. The people at this facility do recognize the labels and know that it is for move-in, and so to put it on one of the trucks destined for Tulane. That is why Tulane specifies very particular shipping dates. FedEx wouldn’t want to have those trucks sitting idle any longer than is absolutely, positively needed.

I think they’re only for tracking at Tulane. I’m sending mine out today with the Fedex label along with the ones sent from Tulane.

Thanks Gabby, we are shipping out today also. The more labels the better I guess! Have a great time this year.

Thank you!! :)

Yes, the stickers are to help them organize the boxes in the big tractor trailers at TU. HOWEVER, I put one of those orange stickers on a box every time I sent a package Fedex to my DS at school the past 2 years. Not only did it help the folks in the TU post office easily identify it for his mailbox, but the one time they weighed it wrong and seriously overcharged my Fedex account, I was able to contact the Fedex shipping and receiving facility in NOLA (very helpful people) and easily identify the box for them to pull off the truck to be re “SWAK’ed” (their term for shipping, weighing and keying or something like that). I said "Look for the bright orange neon sticker that says <<< last name, box #>>> on it. Bingo-- easily found!!
