Shipping to Tulane

Really, WalMart does that? Good, I might use that.

Walmart does it for certain items but not smaller items. And you pay and order online so it is a little different than BBB.

But you need a car to then go and pick those items up, correct? When we took the boxes to the shipping office - fedex ground was the least expensive (albeit only by a buck compared to UPS but significantly less than USPS)

Yes, but for the first time I am going to get a car. We are heading out to the far 'burbs to get some things while there is controlled chaos on campus.

easy to get very inexpensive car rentals, btw. One time I got one for $6/day from Avis. It was a cute little mazda 3 (too small for move in, probably)

Maybe. I am going to get her a small fridge.

We did older s’s move-in with one of those mini suv’s (like a Toyota Rav 4 or Ford escape) Fit the mini fridge, 4 of us and our stuff.

I was thinking of a 40 foot semi. Overkill?

Will she be living in it first semester?

Southwest Airlines allows 2 bags/person for free. Linens, etc are to be picked up at BBB. So if my daughter and I fly down with 4 suitcases and I agree to wear only underwear for the entire move-in weekend we may be able to arrive with most of her clothes and shoes. If you see me, please don’t point and stare.

We had planned on saving the Fedex boxes under my DD’s bed for end of year storage. Changed our minds when most of them looked like they had been run over by a Fedex truck multiple times. Will have to use new boxes at the end of the year.

Yes, some of my D’s stuff got damaged, although nothing too serious. Apparently some things got left out in a storm. I am not happy about it at all. Everyone knows it rains all the time in the summer, I cannot imagine how they could just leave things out in the rain.

When only 3 of the 4 we shipped were found on the truck, the worker pointed to a huge pile on the grass of boxes not loaded yet. My thought when we were told to come back later was “I hope they find it before it pours”. Worker said that the local trucks were coming faster than they could process them onto the larger, storage semi trucks. I thought at the time maybe that is why they said to put everything in a waterproof bag/container before shipping. I did not do this and I was a bit worried. All turned out well for us. Nothing broken or damaged which was good.
What I did wonder was why there was a huge line by Storage truck “A” which was were my D’s boxes were and no lines hardly at the other 3 trucks? Since trucks were divided by mailbox numbers, I was wondering if they had a huge amount of Seniors graduate who had mailboxes 2000-3000. Freshman would be assigned these numbers now. Maybe thats why everyone was waiting on “A”?

I spoke to someone from FedEx who said that many more upperclassmen than expected had moved in early which is why the lines at the other trucks were so short.

Also, we sent 9 (smallish) boxes which arrived and were signed for by the mailroom. However only 8 appeared on the FedEx truck. They are still looking for the box that contains all of my son’s pants. Good thing that it’s hot and he can wear shorts.
