... looking for some more things to do. I've only been here for a little over a month.

***Also, should be noted. I was diagnosed at the end of my senior year with a learning dissability. In high school I never had extended time in any of my classes or on any of the standardized tests (which you may have noted were a bit sub-par). Now I have all the accomodations I need and everything is going so much better. Do you think I should retake the SAT's or ACT's? Or should I make this "hardship" of pushing through high school with a learning dissability a part of my story? ... I still did do well and landed myself at a top university despite everything. I don't want to turn a dissability into an excuse, but it could make for an interesting essay topic? Any suggestions?

I know that just made my post so much more complicated. So... what do you think? Do I have a shot? Any suggestions for how I should go about this?

bump
pweese??
my posts are so neglected on this board : (

Your stats look solid, but why do you want to transfer? You’re at what’s apparently a really good school, and it’s only the beginning of your first year. Are you having fit problems? If I were you, I might try to stick it out for a little while longer and see how things go.

If you do try to transfer, though, I think you’ve got a decent shot (though, of course, transfers to Ivies are crapshoots…) Good luck!

I would say you have a solid chance. Many perfect students get rejected, and many that are not get accepted. Apply to as many top schools as possible, but out of that list, im sure you will get into at least 1.

thanks. do you know if it would be worth sitting for the ACT? or is my college record what matters at this point?

where are you now? We could guess since you said top 15 and you are trying to transfer into 6= 9 left, but please let us know where and why you are not happy…It could help us to help you decide where to transfer to…

i’ll PM anyone who wants to know where i am to form a more informed opinion

I hope I speak for everyone when I say I don’t know what the 100/200/300 level is. It’s your last year but you’re not taking any AP classes? You don’t list your GPA nor rank.

Castel, i’m a freshman in COLLEGE looking to TRANSFER … key words that you seemed to read over

100/200/300 means level of difficulty of the course –
in other words, the fact that i’m taking classes in 200-300 series means that i’m more advanced for a freshman, since most first-year students go into 100-level (AKA introductory courses).

i’m currently on track for about a 3.6 or 3.7 … and i guess from reading some comments and doing some research, 3.5 is the “magic number” for a transfer from one top school to another?

I’m curious - send me a PM! :).

heh. You also said you’d send a PM about my other thread, but I’m sad and PM less. :9

I hope I speak for everyone when I say I don’t know what the 100/200/300 level is. It’s your last year but you’re not taking any AP classes? You don’t list your GPA nor rank.

^ there are any things flawed with what you say.

one is that youre implying that seniors MUST take APs senior year to get into good colleges.
in our school, the course “International Relations” is known as being the toughest course offeered. but is not an AP class

and there are high chools are dont even have AP courses

heerothewizard, i’m so sorry i never sent you your message! i wrote a long detailed account, and then when i went to send it the computer froze, so i’ll re-write it now!

and again, if anyone wants me to PM where i am currently in school so they can give me better insights, i will if you request here.

bumppppppp

bumppppers

Hi,

You have a very interesting situation. My advice is to raise your academic profile since you’ve done so well in extracurriculars. I think you should retake the SAT with more time, it will be a big boost if you raise the scores significantly. Then I would make sure to get near a 4.0 GPA. The schools you listed are incredibly competitive for transfer admissions so you’ll need all the help you can get.

Of the schools you listed, here is how they rate in order of transfer admission difficulty (most difficult first):

Yale
Harvard
Dartmouth
Brown
Penn

Also having GT to Cornell is a great secondary option if you take that route. Best of luck!

Thanks! 4.0 doesn’t really exist here, but I’m shooting for a 3.7ish. All A-'s, maybe one A. It’s so annoying that the acceptance rates are so low.

And again, what are some opinions / thoughts on the ACT?

Shoot for the stars and if you fall you’ll land on a cloud.

(If you don’t know by now I’m talking about chi town)

haha, i still have no clue as to where that line is from. lets just hope that if i land on a cloud, i don’t fall through it and plummet to the ground… ouch.

This is one of my favorite quotes!

yep, i really do think this quote got me through the stress of last year. my guidance counselor was so nervous for me because i really did not apply to any safeties - which is NOT a good idea for those of you out there reading this. if you don’t apply to safeties, spring rolls around and you’re boxed in without many choices.

i’m not complaining. in theory my risky attitude towards the college process worked out because i’m in a top flight school, but this is a very superficial unit of measure. as you can tell from my above posts, i don’t think this is the right place for me.

general message to current seniors: find some safeties that you like, apply to them, and if for some reason it’s may 1st and you are trying to decide between two schools, don’t base your decision off of which is ranked higher - go with what seems right to you.

does anyone have any more “chances” or advice that they’re willing to lend in regard to my transfer pursuits?
