Hey everyone! Just wanted to be helpful in anyone's Holy Cross/college journey so to say. I recently got admitted ED to HC and am attending as the entering Class of 2019. I'm extremely excited and I know a lot about the school from talking to the admission counselors, doing my own extensive research on every possible website there is, to talking to current students, and visiting every chance I get since I live extremely close by. Please by no means take this or what I just said previously in a negative/stuck-up way, just trying to be helpful! Will provide my stats to people if they need it and will try my best to help with any questions or anything!

Hi! I also applied ED to Holy Cross and I also live nearby. And guess what? I am entering the class of 2019 but I applied 2 days ago so I don’t get results in a month. What are your stats? And what do you think got you into HC? :)

Hey @alcrusader! That’s awesome hopefully We’ll see each other during orientation then! I’m guessing you’ll hear back early January that’s when most of my friends who applied last year heard back. You’ll get a phone call too but the online profile gets updated quicker than the call so keep an eye out!

Thanks for the quick reply!

I think we are quite similar… I am also a first generation Asian American (Chinese to be more specific). English was not my first language since I lived in Vietnam for 7 years of my life. Here are my stats:

SATs: didn’t submit, I didn’t think they were good enough
ACTs: Will take but HC won’t get to see it anyways
School: I go to very small school in a suburban area. My graduating class has only 69 students. We focus more on projects than tests which means there are no AP courses or exams. Also, my school does not have clubs after school.
UW GPA: 3.9/4.0
W GPA: 4.26/4.5
I took all of the most hardest classes throughout my years in high school. And took 4 years of each subject.

Extracurriculars:
-I volunteer at a hospital for more than 100 hours
-interned at a biomedical department in the hospital every Wednesday
-currently interning at Warner Babcock Institute, doing research with scientists on green chemistry
-newspaper writer from 9th-now
-Captain of Technovation
-tutoring director of NHS. I also tutor people after school
-Won awards for competing against comp. science majors. Created lego 3D printer.
-work 15 hours a week at stop&shop

Intended major: Computer Science, Engineering, Pre-Med.

Essay: wrote about my passions for technology and how I couldn’t live without it.

Interview: this is where I feel nervous or even anxious about. I think my interview on campus made me sounded not passionate about what I do.

2nd Interview with Alumni: was awesome and it was at her house. We talked about many things and I felt so much better afterwards. The interview lasted for an hour and thirty minutes.

I’m really worried about admissions thinking that my interviews contradict each other but I truly want to become a crusader! What do you think?

No problem @alcrusader! Always here to help! I think regarding your interview, they may think that you weren’t as interested or if you were unsure of if you were committed to HC at that time. It’s good that you redid it and it went well their interview is key to their application and one of the most important pieces of your application if you want a good shot. I also think your EC are pretty good especially because they apply to what you want to do. Also side note, are you doing the 3+2 program or thinking about it? Since your school is so small and unique then they will take a very close look are the rigor, how hard the classes are, and just the class profile for your school. I think your GPA is definitely within their range but then again it all depends on your school too since they really do delve themselves into looking at the school you are from and if there are any previous applicants from your school and comparing you to them.

What do you think I should do to show interest? I think I was just very nervous since my whole entire family was waiting outside for me that day. I’ve went to online chats and visits. Hopefully, my interview won’t negatively impact me ><

@alcrusader I think you’ve basically done all that you can by doing the interviews and visits. Try and do a day visit if you haven’t and attend anymore online chats they have but that probably won’t help now. The only thing is to keep in touch with your admissions counselor and keep in touch him them and be polite. All e mails you send back and forth are printed out as part of your application and it isn’t essential but they will look at it to see if you were polite, see if you showed a lot of interest and overall it’s key to keep in touch with schools that are on the smaller scale since demonstrated interest is very important. Hope this helps!

Well the problem is… I don’t really have any questions to ask admissions. What were some of your questions? My school is just starting to offer more choices in terms of classes but students have went to Carnegie Mellon, Brown, and Columbia. But yes, I am thinking of the 3-2 program!

Congrats on your acceptance! I kindly ask if you can just give your opinion if I could get accepted next year!

GPA: 3.8
SAT: 1800, but probably won’t submit

Hey! I GOT IN! I applied on Monday and got a call from Holy Class on Friday, looking forward to meeting you :D

I am trying to apply now! I’m not sure if I’ll be able to because I applied and got rejected at an ED1 school. Holy Cross is my top choice now though so if they allow me I want to apply ED Monday. I know the interview is very important like you said but the deadline has passed. I hope that doesn’t completely ruin my chances if I am allowed to apply ED. When I contacted Admissions last night I has the impression I would be able to. I couldn’t submit the common app ED though so I submitted it RD and will fax them the agreement if allowed. Some info about me. I’m from Texas. I have a 4.17 GPA weighted but I worry about how low my UW is. I have a 2110 SAT but that’s not a big part of admissions so it doesn’t help much. Also I’ve taken 10 AP classes and feel I have challenged myself academically as much as possible. I don’t have mind blowing ECs but I enjoy the ones I do a lot. HOSA, Best Buddies, Dog Fostering. Anyway I hope I’ll be able to apply Monday but if I can’t I’ll definitely be applying RD. If anyone has opinions or insight on my situation let me know.

VGM2144 please post under thread concerning hearing back from HC ED…

Hey! I haven’t been on for a while but that’s great to hear! Congrats can’t wait to hopefully meet you and be part of HC Class of 2019 together! Go Saders!

Hey! I’m sorry for the late reply I’ve been super busy. I looked everything over and I think you have a good chance of getting in. I think that you should retake your tests and try and get a better score so that you can submit them next year. Although HC is test optional, if you do a lot better than the median and most of the kids who apply next year it will only benefit you and add more to your application. Another key thing that really helps is the fact that you have alumni status and they really love their alumni there especially if they have been in touch with the school throughout the years. They’re summer program is great especially for helping write the perfect essay that they and other schools will like. I recommend going to as many events as you can that they host and keep in touch as much as you can because demonstrated interest is also key to HC. I also think your volunteering is great keep doing that and do things that relate more to what your thinking of majoring in. Doing the CCD and volunteering with your church is also great since they are a Catholic school. I think you have a really great shot. Keep working and don’t fall behind senior year that is the most important year in HC’s eyes. Also, do very well on your interview and make sure they know it’s your top school and that your applying ED. Also, apply as early as you can so that you have less people to compete with and it shows that you’re extremely committed. Good luck let me know if you have anymore questions! Happy Holidays!

Hey! I’m sorry for the late reply I’ve been extremely busy. I hope everything worked out please feel free to shoot me with any other questions and such! Happy Holidays!

Hey! Which thread were you referring to? I’m sorry I’m slightly confused. Happy Holidays!

Hey! I just saw the thread I’m so sorry I replied so late I actually wrote the response and it saved but it never sent apologizes once again, nevertheless; congrats on the acceptance that’s really great!!

Thanks so much, Happy Holidays! One more thing…does applying ED affect financial aid? Thanks!
@VGM2144 — Hey, I applied RD and for the Bean Classics Scholarship! Do you have any idea of how competitive the Bean usually is? I’ve looked everywhere and can’t find much about that
Hey! I know that my Latin teacher was telling me a little about it and she said that it is very competitive which is the same for all colleges that offer something like this. Someone from her high school, and all girls private Catholic high school, was the one recipient and she was top of her class. I definitely cannot say it is easy and I know you have to be basically top of your Latin class in order to even be considered for it since HC does have one of the best Classics programs out there. Hope this helped! I will ask my teacher if she knows anything else and get back to you around Thursday!
