Shooting at Univ. Alabama Huntsville (merged thread folds in Parents Cafe comments)

I wonder what Professor Skrapec has to say about Dr. Bishop.

HA! The husband and the attorney have kept their mouth shut and now the press attention has waned. They should have shut up from the beginning. Although is makes for less to comment on.

Here is what is STILL available online from UAH about Amy and UAH.
[Amy Bishop, Ph.D.](<a href=“UAH - 404 Error Page”>UAH - 404 Error Page)

They probably haven’t taken the page down because she still works for them. Although she murdered colleagues, the school can’t just fire her. There are procedures that have to be followed such as probably her needing to be convicted.

There are sureley grounds for immediate termination in the faculty contract, especially non tenured faculty, for far less egregious acts. Its not like there weren’t witnesses to her actions. Even if they gave her a 2 week severence, she surely met criteria for grounds for immediate termination.

I think they have grounds to fire her even before conviction. At a minimum, they know she brought a firearm onto school property. It’s not like there’s a claim that she didn’t do it.

Her atty isn’t even disputing that she did the crime.

Interesting. UAH is a state university. Can it constitutionally bar/penalize/fire an employee of an arm of the state from openly carrying a firearm on state property? I know that there appears to be some conflict in Kentucky cases and the Office of Attorney General over this under their state constitution, but that was before the SCOTUS started writing on the issue under the US constitution.

On 2/25/10, the Huntsville Times reported that UAH suspended Bishop without pay, retroactively effective 2/12/10. Spokesman Ray Garner was quoted saying that UAH is “moving forward with the process of terminating her employment.” I’m not aware of any updates since then.

I think that they are safe in firing her, since it is unlikely that she will fight it!

^^^^ uh…she didn’t exactly handle the tenure denial too well. Firing her might get her a… little…angry…

Not true. Being denied tenure leaves you hanging, forcing you to be around the people who judged you every day, to think about your shortcomings and wonder what comes next. Being fired brings merciful closure. Firing her would be the kind thing to do, to allow her to move on emotionally.

Did I say firing? I meant frying.

Frying her would allow her to move on physically. Firing her could cause her to join the legions of fired workers who go postal and go back to their former employer and shoot up the place. Oh wait… already did that.

LOL

10 char

And I think she missed out on “moving on emotionally” a long time ago. Now you mentioned hanging…

How about summary execution? And her husband and perhaps the appointed attorney—what should be done about them?

Use their tissue for her lab research?

Maybe we could institute the English principles of “corruption of the blood” and execute all her bloodline?

07 Dad…I think she already began that process, herself.

Also, I’m very annoyed with you for making me even think of that!

You guys are making me laugh.

Yes, sherpa, and don’t you find that relatively alarming?!
