<p>I believe a volunteer activity is fair game to write about, making sure you elaborate on why it was meaningful to you, and not just re-hashing what you already previously listed in the application.</p>

<p>YES. jshain is correct. It is absolutely appropriate to choose to elaborate on community service or volunteer activites. “Extracurricular activities” encompasses everything that you do that is not in the classroom.</p>
