Short essay word length?

How long should the “What interests/Why Brown?” and “Who interested you in Brown?” essays be?

The paper application form gives about 14 lines for the “what interests/why brown?” essay and 3 lines for the “who interested you in Brown?” essay, but the online application allows you 1500 characters for the first essay and 500 characters for the second.

I’m not trying to be overly scrupulous, but I would just like to know what the general range would be for these essays, since there seems to be a slight discrepancy between the paper and online forms of the Brown application.

If I remember correctly, my son wrote a long paragraph-maybe 250 words tops. It is not supposed to be as long as the tell us something about yourself essay.

1500 characters on the "why brown?" essay can give you a lot of room. i think that one is a little more telling about you than the "who interested you in brown?" essay.

is there an "upload" word document option? because it seems that there isn'ta "hard" limit for the personal essay.

Yes, for the personal essay there is. But "Why Brown?" and "Who interested you in Brown?" must fit the given spaces.
