my be considered an urm am not sure ; a eastern uropean norn there form the bronx
he participated in a research program at columbia

The Faculty would make a difference and yes, ECS don't count at McGill but the Columbia Connection couldn't hurt if he is going for Faculty of Science.
To my knowledge URMs do not count at McGill.
If accepted, he would get credit for the APS.

my twin who had a 3.74 and a 31 ACT got second rounded for the Faculty of Science (not wait-listed, but that sign they show you saying they need more time and will get back to you in a week or so). I only mention that so you have some point of reference. EC's mean d!ck, so it's gonna come down to his Physics, Chem, and Math grades. He has to have a B+/A- average in each subject to enter the faculty of engineering, I believe. Check out the McGill website ( http://www.mcgill.ca/applying/undergrad2007-08/usa/ ). I don't remember where to find the .pdf I read those minima on, but it's there somewhere. Either way, it'll be your hard science classes + pre-calc that'll determine your/his admission.

I don't remember a single place on the application that wanted elaboration on my EC's. I'm quite sure McGill doesn't give two hoots about what you did during your time as a student, aside from what you studied.
