I agree with dsmo. Michigan is selective, but it is not mega-selective. A 3.9 student with a 1350/2050+ SAT has a decent shot, assuming the school and course selection is good.

Although I have previously mentioned the importance of ECs on a different thread, I really don't see Michigan rejecting an applicant with a 3.9 GPA and a 1380 SAT score.

FUTBIL: only thing is, he's OOS. But still, he has a shot.

he goes to a private school sat hhis last attempt the 2060 was his highest score in all theree areas schoool offers about 14 a.ps' BUT no body ever takes mor than a 5-8 range 8 ius uber rare i took 7 myself with an unwieghted 3.92 gpa and a 2200 i got in to j hopsk cornell g-town an brown ..so yea tther is rrigor to our school and btw a kid lat yr from our schools with terribls ec's a u much 3.8 something and like a 2100 got in so i think he should get in..

I'm assuming you proofread your essays before applying to those schools...

If you apply early, odds are you'll get in.

rpoof read i try ..

wow, I almost laughed... :P

wow thats ironic lol

haha, i know

wait what? I have a 3.82 UM GPA in the toughest classes and a 30 ACT non super scored and people say that I'm a safe-solid match, some even listed me as a safety? I'm confused. I think I'll have to repost my stats now because I was told I'm basically in.

Going from what I've been told, your bro is in. Maybe I'll see him there because if I get into michigan (I'm applying early), that will be the only school I apply to.

How can you even begin to compare yourself to the OP's brother?

I didn't comment before, but I'd say you're indeed a safety for Michigan.

I would say you are match. i think "safety" might be slightly overstated, as an ACT score of 30 isn't quite in the top 25%, but definitely a match. good luck!

sorry OP, I didn't mean to high jack your thread on purpose.

People, answer the OPs question, I can worry about my chances on another thread.

id care aanymore letrs make this the longest thread ever..lol

...............lol

Is a 30 on the ACT low? I never took the ACT so I am completely ignorant on its grading system. I guess if it's that low, than you're a safe-match.

30 on the ACT is not low. It is the mean score at Brown, Columbia and Cornell. The mean ACT score at other super selective schools like Chicago, Dartmouth, Duke, Northwestern etc... is 31. The mean at Michigan is 29. So a score of 30 is not low.

Alexandre, sources on those IL stats please. The avg at Notre Dame is 33-34. 30 seems a little low for the ones you mentioned...

For the class of 2011 at Cornell (the "least selective" Ivy), 60% score a 700-800 on the math portion of the SAT, while 42% scored a 700-800 on the verbal section. That translates roughly to an ACT score of 32-36. Apparently the writing section was not considered...

sorry, a little off topic again, but worth considering.

VC, I got most of my information from each university's official websites, in some cases from their Common Data Sets.

Brown's mid 50% ACT Composite range is 27-33.

Michigan's mid 50% ACT Composite range is 27-31

Northwestern's mid 50% ACT Compsite range is 29-33

Like I said, most elite universities have mean ACT scores that range from 29 to 31. I am not sure about Notre Dame, but 33 sounds a little bit high. Maybe that's the mean ACT score of admitted students. The mean ACT score of students at Harvard and Yale is 32.5, so I doubt Notre Dame's mean ACT score is 33.
