Should ethnicity be put on applications?

I don't think applicants should be allowed to post their ethnicity on their college applications. I feel like colleges are so focused on ensuring a diverse student body that they become much more lenient in the admission process for minorities. Granted, there are many very qualified minorities who deserve to get into top-tier schools, but there are just as many non-minorities who of equal, sometimes better, credibility. And these non-minorities have less of a chance of getting in sometimes because of reasons out of their control.

I am not at all racist, and I don't have a problem with minorities attending top-tier schools, as long as they are qualified. I just think an academically-sound student body is more important than a diverse student body. Does anyone agree?

We might as well not write our names either...since it's pretty easy to assume a nationality through first/last name. We should apply under an ID number instead.

I agree with the OP.
The ID number thing makes sense too, because some names can reveal ethnicity.
One's color really should not have a bearing on college admissions, it's about your intelligence and talent.
As for diversity, non-minorities from across the country will have different experiences and backgrounds, so I don't think students would be that deprived.
