Should I add another safety?

hello cc!

I am wondering if I should add another safety to my list of schools. Current list:
Stanford
UC Berkeley
USC
CSU pomona
SJSU
CSULB

I am a California resident looking to stay in-state. Intend to major in chemical engineering. 4.0 uw gpa, 4.49 Weighted, 4.29 UC gpa. 34 ACT. subject tests: 800 math level 2, 760 chemistry. Decent ECs, nothing too great. Several AP classes, all 5s. No cost restraints. Looking for schools in or near urban areas.

Is my list good as is, or should I add another safety school? Maybe another UC?

Would you be happy to attend your safeties? If so, you’re fine.

I would be happy! I visited all and I liked them, so I guess I’m good

what about Cal Poly SLO?

What are your safeties? While you have very high stats, with crazy Calif admissions, not sure if you really have a safety listed. You should include a low level UC as well and maybe a true safety.

Does not have the OP’s intended major (chemical engineering).

California schools that have chemical engineering are:

UCs: UCB, UCD, UCI, UCLA, UCR, UCSD, UCSB
CSUs: CPP
, CSULB, SJSU
Private: Caltech, Stanford, USC*

 • = already in the OP's list.

With top end GPA and test scores, it is hard to see the OP not getting into the three CSUs (CSU EI = 1198 based on 200 * 4.29 + 10 * 34, SJSU’s 2015 chemical engineering threshold was 805), but one cannot be 100% sure until after the admission cycle.

However, if the OP likes any of the non-UCB UCs better than the CSUs, s/he may want to add them to the UC application.

@mom2collegekids would UCR be considered a safety for me? My stats are above average and it had a 60+% acceptance rate this year.

UCR would be a good safety as long as you are willing to attend.
