Should I appeal for CalGrant B?

Hello -

My family makes a total income of around 25k-30k with my brother also attending a college with a stay-at-home mother and a full time working father.

I have received CalGrant A but do you think I should send an appeal for the possibility of getting CalGrant B? Or can you only get one and not the other?

My GPA is 3.23 stripped away of all my honor, AP, and physical education classes. I have 6 family members.

I am grateful for the CalGrant A but I wish to help relieve some of the financial stress going on in my family, what do you guys think?

If you’re attending a state school, Cal Grant B is somewhat better. If you’re applying to private schools in California, I’m not sure.

It’s not a significant difference, however - approx. $1,500 for books & other expenses your first year. After that, the awards are the same. And, yes, you can only get one or the other. If you know you’re going to be attending a state school, though, then it’s worth looking into. You can make the request to switch, but you need to do it before you receive the grant.
