Should i apply as a freshman or transfer?

I’ll be applying to U.S. universities, during my studies in Netherlands (UNIVERSITY OF AMSTERDAM), ill be taking foundation classes (1st year equivalent of us universities), however i can indicate that i haven’t attended any universities and (like i took a gap year). But is it worth it to lose 1 year? Are there any transfer friendly universities for international applicants with SOLID merit/financial aid? University of Amsterdam is internationally recognized university, its undoubtedly one of the best universities in the world.

what would you do in my shoes?

P.S. I’ll be aiming at top 1-40 schools.

You do not have the option to ignore classes you have taken. You will be a transfer student if you have taken classes at another university. If you want to be considered a freshman, you need to meet the definition of freshman for the school(s) you apply to.

Know the rules for the schools you want to attend.
