I would like to major in history and fulfill the prerequisites for medical school. I really want a strong humanities education while still pursuing my dreams to become a doctor.

The problem is, none of my ECs are related to history. My only humanities-related EC is scoring high on foreign language exams and winning awards. I have a lot of medical ECs though. I have other great ECs but none are related to history.

Academically, I do well in history. I have an 800 USH subject test, 5 on APUSH/APWH, and I'm taking 4 social science AP/IB classes senior year (AP Euro, AP Government, IB Psychology, IB 20th Century History Topics)

So should I apply as a history major or undecided? I hear that top schools want your ECs to be in line with your major but I'm not sure how this would affect me.

You are over thinking and trying to predict what an admissions director would like to see. Stop it, please!

I don’t know where you got the impression that your EC’s need to be related to your academic interests. They do not! In fact, it’s better if your EC’s are totally separate than your academic passion, as it diversifies your interests and doesn’t make you seem as one-dimensional. Secondly, you should put down whatever is in your heart. If history is what you want to study, write down history as your intended major. If you are undecided, it’s okay to write that as well. Be honest and true to yourself! Part of the admissions process is learning to think like a mature adult.
