Hi everyone! So currently I’m in my second year of community college, double majoring in English & Poli Sci, and I’m applying to transfer so that I can be at a university by the fall of 2018. I’m applying to the following UC campuses: Irvine, Los Angeles, Berkley, San Diego, Riverside. As a transfer applicant, I can only choose one major on my application, however, my counselors have informed me that once I get into a university it is easy to add on a major.
Which brings me to my question: Which major (Eng/Poli Sci) should I apply as on each UC campus in order to increase my chances of getting in?
Neither. Both English and Political Science are what are called “oversubscribed” majors - majors that are very popular that too many applicants express a strong interest in.
Not just the admit rate. You also want to check the 25th-75th percentile GPA range. Some majors may have lower admit rates but also lower GPA ranges, indicating that they attract larger (relative to capacity) but weaker applicant pools.
You should apply to UCLA as an American Literature and Culture major, which has an above 60% acceptance rate and low competitive GPA. It’s pretty much the same thing as an English major, except that its easier to get into. (English at UCLA is an impacted major - 40% acceptance rate and high GPA percentiles)
Don’t know your stats but, since they share aps and you plan to apply to others, why not throw an ap at any you are interested in?
As a hedge, I’d TAG Davis, their proximity to the state capitol makes for some unique opportunities for poli sci majors (internships, etc)
