Should I apply EA?

Hey guys,
Well I've been reading on this forum that applying EA for students OOS is a bad idea. I know that they only take the best students OOS but I'm wondering if I should do EA or just wait till regular. I would much rather do EA because I want to find out early and buy some UNC stuff :) but what is your guys opinions.

I think my essay is pretty good but not spectacular. I will also not be applying for fin-aid and will be paying full price.

Do you guys think I should apply EA OOS?

If UNC is a school you are very interested in attending and you do not anticipate any significant change in your stats, I don’t see a reason to not apply early action. I would advise you to work on those essays, from what we have learned about UNCm the essays are very, very important!

BTW, my daughter just spent the weekend at Carolina on a recruiting trip and absolutely loved it! I know you two share an appreciation for UVA and she found UNC to be very similar. A beautiful, friendly campus in a great college town, not too big and that southern charm. The big difference she felt was the school spirit at UNC was far more apparent then at Virginia. She really wants a school with a strong athletic culture, but not a huge school, like UF.

That is why I liked it so much fishy. The school was almost exactly like UVA and had great fried chicken. I would take UVA over UNC but I definitly want to get inot UNC.

I don’t think it hurts to apply EA. The schools I know of very rarely turns out EA applicants but instead defers them to the regular applicant pool. Besides, if you DO get in, you’ll know that much sooner. And being out of state always sucks since they’re even more selective :frowning:

It’s too bad UVA got rid of the EA, right?

It’s too bad UVA got rid of ED :(

First, UNC doesn’t really have “EA” in the sense that one deadline has an intrinsic advantage over the other in some way; it just has two deadlines. I believe in most of their publications admissions has moved away from the term early action and to “first deadline” and “second deadline” to reflect this.

UNC considers all applicants as a part of the total applicant pool from both deadlines.

This being said, the first deadline usually has a higher acceptance rate, because this is when all the NC-residents and more competitive OOS residents traditionally apply.

The advantage of second deadline is that you can retake the SAT or ACT a few more times, and that you can report 1st semester grades, which can have a major impact if you made a few mistakes along the way.

If your GPA is unweighted I think you should be fine applying 1st deadline, if it is weighted, apply 2nd.

Also, elaynna,UNC traditionally denies more 1st deadline applicants than it defers, because they have a good idea of how 2nd deadline will turn out. Deferals are only used if a student is truly on the bubble.

UNC/UVA/Gtown is where I want to go. Getting into UNC EA would just be unreal.

If you want to apply early so that you find out in January, go for it. If you want to apply 2nd deadline so they can see straight "A"s for your AP classes senior year, thats fine too.

1st or 2nd deadline really doesn’t play much of a difference. Also, Chapel Hill is nicer than Charlottesville so if you get into both UVa and UNC, don’t count us out ;)

I’ve visited both Tony :). Both were amazing and had everything I’m looking for.
UVA:
Amazing Lacrosse
Great Business Program
Know people who have gone there
Love the community feel of the school
The Corner is very nice

UNC:
AMAZING Fried Chicken
I love the real southern feel (I’m originally from Florida)
Amazing basketball (my favorite sport)
Very focused around sports resulting in huge spirit
Franklin Street was very nice

Both schools have what I’m looking for. I’m just praying that I get into either.
