Should I apply early decision before retaking the SAT?

Hey, I was I want to apply to a university early decision but I flunked the SAT the first time I took it. I am planning on re taking it (this time more prepared) the November 4th date but the early decision deadline is November 1st. My question here is, would it be a good idea to still apply early decision and then update my (hopefully better SAT score? or should I just wait for my November 4th score and then apply regular decision?

According to the college board these score would come out between November 17 and November 23 and the essay score would come out November 28th. (https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/scores/getting-scores)

@Mendini12 Can you take the October SAT? You may be able take the November test and still apply ED but it is totally dependent on that school’s deadline for receiving scores. Most every school lists these dates on their website. You need to check. For some schools the November test date is too late. I think your best bet is to try to take the October test and not apply ED and study to improve your SAT scores if you aren’t happy with them.

If you know your current score is significantly below the admission average, there is no point to apply ED. Once rejected, you don’t even have a chance to apply RD.

I thought that if you dont get in by ED you get moved to RD, am I wrong?

@pkchamp89 I might take the October test, but I feel that I am not prepared enough, at lwast not yet. Anyways thank you all for the help!

In the ED round you can be accepted, deferred to the RD round or rejected outright.

It depends on the school. For very competitive schools, if your score or GPA is out of the range, you will be very likely rejected. For Stanford, they reject 85% of EA applicants even many with near perfect stat and defer a very small number…
