Should I apply ED to Columbia or NYU?

I am planning to major in marketing or economics with a double major in sociology.

I’m having a lot of trouble deciding whether I should apply early decision to Columbia or NYU. NYU obviously has the better undergraduate business school, seeing as Columbia does not have one. On the other hand, Columbia is my top choice. If I apply ED to Columbia and get rejected and then subsequently get rejected from NYU Stern, I will feel as if I have wasted an ED I could have used else where (although, I think I have a good chance at Stern, though no guarantees, of course). If I apply ED to NYU, I’m afraid I will have regrets. If you want to take a look at my student profile to better formulate an opinion, I made a post about it a few days ago. One thing I didn’t mention on there is my essay and supplements, which I think will be good, as I am a strong writer. I think I can package myself effectively. Anyway, thank you very much advance! Any comments would be appreciated.

Apply to Columbia since it’s your first choice. Applying ED does not give a substantial boost to your admissions, especially when it’s to these 2 selective schools, Columbia and Stern.

Keep in mind NYU is super expensive.

NYU has ED2 I believe so if you don’t get into Columbia ED you can use that option. Check the NYU website to confirm.

Is your family independently wealthy? I couldn’t imagine EDing to NYU unless that were the case.

@“Erin’s Dad” @rdeng2614 I don’t believe money will be too big of an issue (please don’t take that to mean I am boasting about my wealth). I’m not extremely wealthy, but my family is wealthy enough to cover the costs. And besides, I’m pretty sure Columbia is just as expensive as NYU

I would recommend what happy1 said and doing ED to Columbia, and if that doesn’t work out, applying ED 2 to NYU Stern. Take advantage of the fact that NYU has a second ED round!

There’s your answer

Columbia is just as expensive, but they also have far better financial aid than NYU.

That said, I agree with all above. If Columbia is your first choice, apply there ED. That’s what ED is FOR.

You shouldn’t feel like you wasted an ED if you don’t get into either, because the purpose of ED is not to boost your admissions chances (there’s really little evidence that it actually does that anyway). If you think have a good chance at Stern anyway, but it’s not your top choice, just apply RD.

Rather than just focusing on where you want to go to college for the next 4 years, what is the end result you are looking for from those 4 years of education? It may be that one school or the other is better at getting you to your post-college end point. (I don’t just mean professionally, either.) Or not. In which case, go with whichever is the better fit.

What are your test scores? AP tests?

Nevermind, I saw them in your other thread. I’d say it’s really your call. You have stats and ECs to be considered for Columbia but the competition is brutal as you know and being Asian doesn’t help. If you will have regret and Columbia is truly your dream school than you should probably take a chance and roll the dice because life is about taking risks (prudent ones) and having no regrets.
