by the end of this year (i'm a junior) ill have about a 4.69 weighted/3.67 unweighted and i got a 2280 on my SAT's. columbia is one of my top choices but recently i've loved it even more and now i'm pretty sure i'll apply ED. however, as you can see, my gpa might not be up to par for a school like columbia so i wasn't sure if that was good. but ill defenitly get the grades up this year and prospectively get a whole gpa of 5.02 weighted/3.75 unweighted and my counselor says i may even end up number one. how would i let columbia know of this in october? after horribly slacking of sophomore year () i got a 5.833 weighted this year but i'm still not sure if this upward trend will go through. do i have a chance? or if i'm deferred do i apply again with better scores? btw, here are some other things:

-excellent extracurriculars
-very good recs
- very good essays (i had them checked by 3 english teachers)
- what i would consider, a very good hook

thanks for any help and i really appreciate it!

can you afford columbia, as in really afford it. If you get no aid can take on 45k a year and be willing to be 180k in debt. If so, then hell ya go for it.

i have a question. Do schools see your weighted or unweighted GPA? different schools weight GPA's differently. For example, my school adss .05 for a year of a honors course, even if it is AP

yeah, finances shouldnt be a huge problem if you can get in as ivys give out a lot of money

5.833 out of 6. well i am from argentina and i only learned english in 7th grade when i moved here from buenos aires and i've learned it really fast and i also was a state-wide commended ESL student and got an A in my AP english class so my counselor told me it would be a great hook. as for money, i have heard that columbia gives out A LOT of financial aid but i'm not too worried about it.

If you're number one in your class, it doesn't matter what your GPA mis. It just says your school is tough and doesn't have grade inflation. Rank matters, not GPA.

no i dont think it's that but it's the same thing for calculating your unweighted GPA except you get a higher number bcuz it's weighted.

suze, but i'm pretty skeptical i'll be number one. my school is pretty good plus there's like 700 of us. i might end up in the top 20 or sumthing
