Should I apply ed2 to nyu

hi. nyu is my dream school and I was originally gonna apply ed2 but everyone talked me out of it because I am unsure about financial aid. I applied to other schools but I not 100% into them. I know I want to go to grad school so if I went to nyu I would be in bit of debt, but I really want to go. thoughts?

A bit of debt is 27,000 for a bachelors degree. That’s the maximum debt FAFSA will allow for a bachelors degree. Any more than that, your parents have to co-sign private loans over to you in mass quantities. My advice…DON’T! You’d trash your future. Seriously, if you have to do that, you clearly can’t afford to go to NYU.

I have a dream of owning a Ferrari, but my bank account says no every time

Have you run the NPC to see what aid it suggests you’ll get?

@SJ2727 they estimate I would get 25,000 so I would have to pay 46,000

And how much of that would you (or your parents) have to loan?

most likely a majority of it. my efc for fafsa was 17000 but I don’t think my parents can give me that much every year

Hard to see that being worthwhile especially if you want to go to grad school, a cheaper public option probably makes more sense. You’d need your parents to co-sign anyway above the amount in post #1 as I presume you are aware.

Not being able to afford to go to a school is the one rule-abiding way to break an ED agreement, so if NYU can’t provide you with the financial aid you need, you are allowed to not go. Since NYU does not appear to be comfortably affordable per the net price calculator I would not apply ED2.

Part of your decision should also be: how much will applying EDII affect your chances? If you have high enough stats, good EC’s, etc, you might be able to get in without applying ED.

@cytokinesis my sat score is a 1280 and there middle 50% was abt a 1380 so im below average for who they accept.

Middle 50 is 1350-1530 on SAT, so you are well below. Do you have any hooks?

@SJ2727 Ive been perfecting my why nyu essay but it doesn’t sound amazing, and my common app essay is ok.
