I am an international student requiring financial aid. While searching for a college to apply ED2, Tufts seems like a great fit to me. But my friends say that I won't get into Tufts because last year, tufts provided huge aid to an applicant from my high school who had the exact same stats as me. He was also a tech/engineering type guy and had the same SAT, subject tests in Phy, Chem and Math2 scores as me. My friends say US colleges take intl student to bolster their diversity but as they have taken a guy with almost exact a profile like mine, my getting in with financial aid is almost impossible. Should I apply ED 2 to Tufts or not?

In general, Tufts looks for diversity within the context of a class. Diversity encompasses more attributes than nationality, though, and the attributes of the applicant pool varies from year to year. This means that last year’s results are unlikely to hurt you, but they also may not be a good predictor of this year’s results.

Thanks!

I’ve seen it already. But, thanks anyways.

Wow, that was one of the best, most distilled explanations of the holistic admissions process I’ve ever read, & I’ve read & heard a lot here & elsewhere.

You should apply ED2 if you really want to go there. What’s the harm?
