Hi. I’m planning to transfer from a UK university, but am hesitant about which cycle I should apply. The fall deadline is in 1-2 months and I’m not entirely sure that I’m ready. For one, I have a few colleges in mind, mostly LACs, but am just beginning to do serious research on their websites, etc. and I know research is very important in making sure they’re a good fit for me.
For another, I haven’t entirely got my story straight. I know I want to pursue a liberal arts education, but I don’t really know a ton about it. The UK curriculum doesn’t provide much of an opportunity for experience. Therefore at present I don’t feel confident that I’m able produce a quality essay or personal statement regarding my educational goal, etc.
As for stats. I got a UK class 2.2/2.1 which probably mounts to GPA 3.0-3.3 this past trimester, although I am in quite a rigorous program, and am fairly optimistic about improving over this trimester. I’m thinking about some colleges along the lines of Skidmore, Sarah Lawrence, Bard, etc.
Some colleges have deadlines in April which I still want to apply to, but I’m really hesitant about those with deadlines in March. Should I wait till November? Are admission rates lower or higher for spring transfer than fall?
Perhaps I could apply to a few schools first and see how things turn out. if I get rejected, is it a good idea to apply again for spring? Does rejection make a negative impression that’ll hurt my chances for a second-time-round?
To complicate things even further, if by any chance I get accepted, I’ll need a visa to study in the US (and no I’m not a UK citizen either). And perhaps it’ll be smoother once things get slightly back to normal in late 2021/early 2022. I’m trying to do a very complicated thing in very complicated times I know.
Ok. It’s a long post so thank you for being here. Please feel free to read my previous posts. Please I need your help. Any insight/advice is thoroughly appreciated. Thank you.
