Would it hurt my chances of getting in (kind of the same question but worded differently -- would it help if I didn't submit it)? Would there be any chance of aid at all, considering I'm an only child of parents who make 170k+ after taxes?

Unless NYU has dramatically changed its policies since my friends attended a few years ago, applying for aid should not make a difference in their admissions decisions as their policy has been need-blind.

In fact, you should do so because you never know how much you may be eligible for…though I wouldn’t count on getting much if the experiences of my friends and myself over the last 15+ years are any indication.

ah ty. I just don’t want it to hurt my chances especially if I don’t have a chance for aid.

Can anyone else in a similar income bracket tell me whether they received any financial aid? Thanks in advance.

My kid is a sophomore at NYU and we are in a similar income bracket. We were advised by Tisch to submit the FAFSA (which we did, even though we were certain our kid would not be eligible for need-based aid). My kid was awarded a substantial merit scholarship (and we have been told that we need to submit the FAFSA every year to continue eligibility to receive the scholarship). So, from our experience, the answer would be - yes, submit!

Applying for aid WILL NOT in any way effect your acceptance. NYU is “need-blind”, which means that your particular school will not even look at your FAFSA until you are accepted. While NYU has a bad rep in terms of aid - they do mostly give aid to those who filed a FAFSA - it is just very low.
