I am an international applicant from Brazil. I am 15 yrs old and applying for 11th grade in Choate and Hotchkiss. My Brazilian school is private and one of the best in the country.

School: I don't know how to "translate" my grades, but my rank is 1/120. I also got the first place in the school's "college preparatory exam"

Extracurricular: Drama club (3 yrs); English course (7 years)(advanced diploma); Music classes (1yr). I also speak chinese (self-taught).

Athletics: Tennis classes (2yrs), I played in a competition, and proudly got the last place. Sorry coach!

Work experience: 100+hrs working in my uncle's accounting firm; 100+hrs of voluntary work in a Ngo that promotes animals rights.

SSATs: I'll still take them, but the practice questions sound very easy.
Toefl: Will take it in November...

I thought I was a good applicant before logging into CC. Now, I'm almost giving up.
I'm great academically, but I don't have anything more, I mean, most kids in my class just drink and smoke all day, I think teaching myself chinese was already an incredible act.

just apply. It won’t hurt to try and wait for the decision in march. I don’t think I will be able to get into a top boarding school, but I’m just applying anyways. decisions are unpredictable, maybe they’ll be interested in you. I’m also international and applying for choate and other top schools. I have 1 safety school.

Never give up on anything before you even try! You seem to be fine, considering you rank at a school that prestigious, and that you’re international. (Choate looks a lot for diversity)

And don’t worry about what other people say on CC. People on CC are crazy impressive. Just the fact that you’re looking on this website says that you’re doing a lot more than many other applicants. (I personally didn’t even know about CC until I got into Choate, and neither did many of my classmates.)

I’ve seen A LOT of applicants with a lot less to brag about when I give tours at Choate. You really don’t have much to be worried about. Roll your dice and see where your luck gets you!

And if you have any specific questions (about Choate), feel free to ask me. I’m a current Choate student and have been for three years.
