So, I really want to go to CMU for Industrial Design. However, since I don't have a portfolio, I have to submit a Design Project (for those who don't know, CMU's School of Design has a project with 4 assignments that you can use instead or in addition to a portfolio), but I know that it will never be as impressive as a full portfolio.

I'm wondering if I should have applied to H&SS as well. I know that I'd have no shot at SCS or CIT (which would be more appropriate to my interests), and though I hate the idea of just mainly applying to a school just to "get in", it seems that H&SS is easier to get into than the other schools at CMU. I'm not even sure if CMU would even let me apply to H&SS at this point because I submitted my application and suppliment before December 1st (which is the RD deadline for CFA).

Basically, I'm wondering if it's stupid to apply to H&SS (in addition to CFA) just because I want to go to CMU and it's easier to get into than other schools there. I'd also like to know if anyone has applied to CFA (School of Design) with only the design project and not a full portfolio and if they had any success with that.
