Should I apply to Ivies?

Quick stats: 3.5 UW GPA (3.7 after 1st semester senior year... its going well halfway into the semester). 30 ACT (maybe improved? Just took it again)

I know you probably look at this and toss me out the window because of the GPA and test scores. I did take the hardest schedule possible at a top public HS (AP Scholar w/ Honor). I know where I'm applying but thought it would be interesting to apply to some Ivies if worth it. I know the competitiveness, I've been on here for two years. But for schools like Cornell, Brown, even Dartmouth, do I even stand a chance at all? I would only apply because I'll regret it later in life if I had the chance to apply and be accepted.

*My EC's are great. No bragging, I didn't cure cancer or win a super award but I am super dedicated with certain programs. Is it even worth applying as a super reach school?

You say your hs is a top public–how many kids do they typically send to Ivies? Do you resemble any of them stats-wise? What’s your rank?

Your ACT score gave away the competitiveness of your hs as it tracks your gpa. Unless you can get it to 35+ level, your chances are slim to none. But, you can still be successful in college and get to the Ivies at graduate level.

Don’t just arbitrarily apply to any ivy. Apply to schools you would truly enjoy attending. That being said, if there is an ivy that seems attractive to you, then go ahead and apply. The only way you have no chance of getting accepted is if you don’t apply =)

Good luck to you.

Your chances are probably on the low end but the only two downsides are cost of applying and having to deal with possible rejection. Moreover, one should not apply to ivies unless you believe you actually want to attend (and are not just doing it for the ego factor). Here in the Midwest, There are many who could qualify for ivies who would never apply because they have no desire to go east to college and the “awe” of the ivies is not what it is like in the east.

It is about more than the numbers; they are building a class. Remember that these schools turn away many applicants with perfect numbers. Your numbers show that you could do the work at an Ivy. Your essays and EC’s are also very important. Do apply!

We send a few, not a great many. Many are qualified but choose to stay in the Midwest, for good reason too. I’ve traveled to most of the Ivies campus’s and done a few visits just because I was there. My family enjoys traveling.

Thanks for the bluntness too! I think I’ll still apply because of Dartmouth’s downhill ski team (so jealous, I’m not good enough to be on it), and the schools I physically visited.
