Should I apply to the College or SFS?

Hi guys (and girls)

So I'm filling out the application for EA, and I'm having a really difficult time deciding if I want to apply to the SFS or the College.

If I were to go into the College I would major in Government, which is really my main focus, but I've found a strong interest in the SFS and their Culture and Politics degree, especially after spending a week down there for one of their Institutes.

Do you think that if I wanted to apply to SFS I should have shown a more international-politics based interest? Most of my stuff would fall under "American politics" so would that hinder my chances at SFS?

Thanks for any input you can provide!

What is your language ability? In the College you have to show proficiency (intermediate level 2nd semester). In SFS you have to show full fluency. Sorry, I can’t answer your primary question. Our son went the College route as language is not his strength. He is majoring in political economy (including International Relations) and double minoring in Business and English.

Apply to SFS. best of luck!

Do you actually need a fluency? I am quite proficient in Spanish, I understand it and can read it quite well, I’m just not a great speaker, mostly because I grew up hearing it, because my grandparents and mother are from Argentina

Yes, in SFS you need fluency which includes reading, writing and speaking. Some exams may be oral or partially oral in nature.

I wouldn’t say you need to be fluent. I’m taking Japanese, and I’ve heard that its proficiency test, as well as other languages like Arabic and Chinese have pretty easy tests.
