I really wanna apply ED to brown but my parents say they cant afford :(
I'm not us citizen or pr so i cant get fa.
of course there's no guarantee that i will get accepted so i wanna try at least..
what should i do? :((((((((((((((((((((((((((

Applying RD to a school you can’t afford is a very bad idea. Why on earth would you apply ED to a school you have no way to pay for? You’re just hurting yourself. Really, really bad idea.

You need to apply to schools that your family can afford and to which to you can be admitted. You will also need to get a student Visa which means you will have to show that you have the money. Forget Brown.

If you’re a Brown aspirant, it goes to reason that you have some level of analytical and problem solving skills, right?

Unless you have the inside line on an upcoming lottery, your proposed plan of action is stunningly bewildering.

what magic do you expect to happen if you get into Brown that is going to pay for it?

If you have to ask “Should I apply ED?” The answer is no. Always.

ED is a sure bet, you are STUCK. If there is the smallest grain of uncertainty, do not do it.

Furthermore, Brown will not provide you with adequate aid just because “Ooops, we already accepted her ED, so we have to make sure she has money to come!” That isn’t how it works. Applying ED while knowing you do not have the means to attend, will not be provided the means to attend through FA or outside scholarships, and will not gain the means to attend by any other method before May is, in my opinion, dishonest. ED is making a commitment that if accepted, you will attend, so long as the financial aid you expected based on your EFC comes through. Since you know you won’t be receiving financial aid and therefore likely won’t be able to attend if accepted, I don’t know that it’s completely right of you to apply ED. That just doesn’t seem fair to the process.

I think if you are going to apply, you really need to wait until the RD round. As has been discussed at length on this board and as I have heard straight from the mouth of a Brown Admissions Officer, when considering the recruited athletes accepted in the ED round, there is virtually no difference in acceptance rate between early decision and regular decision. Just wait it out.

It may also be beneficial for you to look at other institutions, particularly those that are need-blind for international applicants.
