I’ve been accepted to UCSB, Cal Poly Pomona, and Claremont McKenna’s Computer Science major. After doing all my research my only question is Why should I go to a liberal arts school for a technical degree? I know no one is forcing me to go to CMC but what would be the perceived advantages of attending a liberal arts school for a technical degree(like the two ideas seem paradoxical to each other)?
In addition to all of the other amazing resources CMC offers its own students, all 5C students are able to attend recruiting events on all of the other Claremont campuses. And, @binbin2093 while you’ve probably seen this, for others who haven’t dug into CMC’s Computer Science pages:
“CMC, Harvey Mudd College and Pomona College offer programs in computer science in close collaboration, and most computer science courses offered at the other Claremont Colleges are comparable to CMC courses… …The computer science courses at The Claremont Colleges are designed so that students completing the computer science sequence at CMC can seamlessly continue on to a full major in computer science at Pomona College or Harvey Mudd College.”
CMC likes to think of itself as a liberal arts college, and it does have the size aspect, but in terms of academic mentality, I would not describe it as at all a liberal arts college. I wouldn’t put too much weight on the article otisp posted.
Thank you so much for sharing that article @otsip ! It helped put things in perspective. I am happy to say I’m most likely committing to Claremont McKenna!!!
