So I’m currently a senior, deciding on which college to attend. Last week, I got a full ride to Johns Hopkins (super super grateful for it).
My dream school is Georgetown, but to be honest, I’m doubting that I’ll get in. So, there’s a likely chance that I’ll be attending Johns Hopkins next year (hey, I’m not complaining - it’s an amazing school).
However, my biggest concern is that I’m a business major. There’s no business school at Johns Hopkins, so I’d have to major in economics. After college, I want work in banking, but I’m scared about not being able to land a job after I graduate from Hopkins.
My other possible options can include Boston College (Carroll School of Mgmt), Northeastern, and Virginia Tech. Money is not a concern here. All three schools have business programs, but Johns Hopkins has a much better reputation and has higher quality academics.
With Georgetown out of the question, do you guys think I should go with Hopkins? Boston College? Virginia Tech? Northeastern? I’m having a very difficult time selecting.
If this is a true full ride (tuition, fees, housing, meals, and mabye money for books and materials) it isn’t likely that you will get another aid package that is as good. What you need to ask JHU about the aid, is if there is anything you need to do to keep that aid for all four year. Is there a GPA requirement?
You should contact the economics department and the JHU career center, and ask about internship and job placement for that major. How many go directly into banking?
One well kept secret is that the various Baltimore area colleges and universities participate in course exchange. There may be details buried somewhere in the JHU website. This means that if there are one or two specific business-related classes that you and your advisors determine to be useful, you may be able to pick them up at one of the other places in/near Baltimore.
@hg0987 I’m confused on the full-ride”ness”. Is the JHU a full merit ride as you mention farther into your post that money is not an issue? Especially given you mention BC, which is known to be super stingy! Undergrad=take the full ride in my opinion.
@MAandMEmom my full ride to Hopkins is need-based (the Bloomberg donation was exceptional). I will most likely not be attending BC. I was accepted to UVA last night, so I have another school to think about. Thank you for your comment!
@publisher because Virginia Tech gave me a full ride as well. Northeastern gave me generous financial aid + merit scholarships. Boston College also was generous. The difference of cost of these schools is minimal ($1000-2000/yr difference).
