I have been in CC for quite some time due to being unsure of what major I wanted (I still am not 100% happy but I just want to start working before I die of old age or become unemployable). I finally can transfer soon into business administration(with a focus on accounting or finance) but since I'm so cheap and fear debt (as well as fear using any of my financial assets I have saved) I'm going to what most people would call a low tier back up school (SJSU since its close and its the best of the 3 California Bay Area CSUs). Will I be doomed when it comes to finding a job or am I wasting potential with my life? My GF is starting to apply pressure on me to just finish up already and I'm getting tired of school so I want to just get it over with.

Please help

There’s no reason to be ashamed of it. How is getting a college degree something to be ashamed of?

Don’t be ashamed! You should be proud that you’re furthering your education which is something that a lot of people can’t/don’t do.
Make sure SJSU has the major your are looking for so you won’t be wasting your time. Also, if you are in-state, why not check out some of the UCs? They offer priority to California residents, especially those coming from California CCs.

Also, you won’t be doomed as long as you do a really good job at the school you decide to attend. Many jobs will take the 4.0 SJSU grad over a 1.0 USC “grad” (not sure if a 1.0 can even graduate).

Best of luck!

@camover I can’t leave my house, and I live on the peninsula, uc berkeley is slightly out of my range and ucsc is too far and doesn’t offer business

@DickCheney Ahhh ok. Well, go where your major lies. If this is an undergrad degree, then it doesn’t matter so much where you get it rather than how you did academically.

@camover I refuse to put myself into debt. If I was younger, more bright eyed, more naive, and wealthier I’d apply to a uc in SoCal all day. But I don’t want to lose my financial assets due to the absurd cost of dorms+uc tuition. Plus living at home for free seems so much practical.
Sjsu is the best csu in the Bay Area for my major (business admin with a concentration )that’s why I chose it

One of the two guys from my startup days who has had the most success since then went to SJSU. After you graduate, ball hard and you’ll be fine.

@purpletitan was he the entrepreneur? Because that doesn’t count

Pay levels found by employed SJSU graduates: http://www.sjsu.edu/careercenter/employers/salary-data/Salary%20Survey%202012_2013.pdf

@ucbalumnus that must be one terrible finance department. Accounting is pretty low too. I don’t see why general business/management/marketing/HR are doing so well… Seems fishy.

Nothing to be ashamed of. By getting a degree, you are in the top third of Americans education-wise. It may take you longer but it is only a statement of your determination and stubbornness to become enlightened… or at least employable.

@PSC2IVY state schools are pretty low on the food chain. A tree stump could get in and pass with enough work ethic.

Is it true that only “special Ed” or dumb people who can’t go anywhere else go to csus? Is it true that McDonald’s workers are smarter and better off than csu students?

Yes, that is true. Don’t go to SJSU. Go work at McDonalds.

K then

No.
