So here is my dilemma at the moment. Where I currently stand, I firmly believe that my chance of passing the AP Chemistry exam with at least a three is no higher than 25% at most. In part, this is so because my teacher did not feel she was obligated to cover all of the material tested on the exam - she only got through a third, if even that, of our textbook - and because I simply have not had much time to study outside of class due to homework obligations and whatnot.

Anyway, if I intend to pursue a pre-med track at WashU, should I be concerned as the title suggests? Would I be better off spending the time I could use to study enough material to earn a three on the AP Chemistry exam to instead study for other AP exams on which I stand a solid chance of getting a five?

Thanks for any help you guys can provide me. In case it did not come across, I am really worried about what implications can result from my current situation.

I am not sure I even understand your question. You cannot place out of freshman chemistry if you are premed, med schools require that you take it even if you got a 5 on the AP test. So I think your question is moot.

I’m not so much concerned about placing out of freshman chemistry (which I was not planning on doing anyway) as about seeming that I “blew off” chemistry and the AP exam.

They aren’t going to rescind you if you get a 2 on a single AP exam, especially if you do well on others and keep your grades up. Might it be a good idea to study a bit more for that one? Yes, but don’t kill yourself over it.

Your score doesn’t matter. You’ll take Chem 1 and 2 either way. You don’t have to send your ap Chen score if you don’t want to. Just do the best you can; you can still get random units that aren’t specific for anything with a decent score.

Are you obligated to take the AP chem exam? If you know that you won’t place out of the class at WashU, why not just skip the exam and concentrate your efforts on your other AP exams. For most subjects WashU wants a 5 to give credit, so your time would likely be better spent trying to get a 5 on the other exams.

I got a 1 on the AP Physics test and nothing happened. I really don’t think they care after you get in.
