Hello! I just had my interview with Harvard on Friday, and it wasn’t as great as some of my other interviews, but I don’t think it went badly by any means. However, on my way out, I said, “I’d love to stay in touch and let you know when the decisions come in. May I add you on LinkedIn?” My interviewer said yes, and after I sent him a thank-you email, I sent him the invitation. The thing that worries me is that he hasn’t accepted my request. I know this sounds silly, but should I be worried that he’s intentionally avoiding my request? Should I take it as a bad sign of what he’s going to write in his review of me? Or is there a rule that they shouldn’t add applicants because it might show they’re biased towards him or her? Or am I missing another explanation? Thanks!
I think you are worried so much, just wait and probably he will add you if he said he will do so. However, if he doesn’t that would be probably because it is not allowed for an officer to interact with students. Important thing is whether you will get accepted, right? Be patient and wait for your letter. By!
Even if the interviewer did not want to connect on linkedin, I doubt that your request will impact their assessment of you. Also, many professionals are too busy to deal with email/linkedin requests etc so it may take a few days/weeks. for them to accept.
Even if you are correct that they do not want to accept the request, that is their prerogative and I wouldn’t worry about it- many professionals want to keep linkedin ‘professional’.
Finally, keep in mind that the interview carries little to no weight and will probably not tip the scales in either direction.
