Hey, Im in incoming sophmore at the local public high school and I'm worried about my freshman year grades. Im probably thought of as one of the more knowledgable kids in my class, but i guess i just messed up my freshman year. First semester, i got a C+ in English 9 Honors, and Second Semester i got a C- in Spanish 1. My overall GPA freshman year was a 3.33. Right now, I am not sure wether or not my grades freshman year will affect my acceptance into a good college. My strongest subjects are math and science, so i was thinking about going into some sort of technical college, although i am not completely sure. I heard alot of good things about Harvey Mudd College. So I am asking you, will my grades freshman year affect my acceptance into a good college by the time I am a senior? Thanks for your help - Ohnonomiss

P.S. - My school is public and is not considered a very good school. i was thinking about dropping out and continuing on at either a better high school or finishing up high school at a community college. would either of these be a good choice? thanks again

Ohnonomiss .... I had not heard of Harvey Mudd till last year but I think it is very very selective ...like MIT. My grandmom was in the vocational educational education field and I remember her speaking highly of the GM University.(General Motors) It depends on the type of vocational field you are interested in. I think there are many programs in computers, animation and programming that may be available to you. GM Univ is for engineering and management. also Renssalear and Wentworth Institute of Technology. there are also food related specialty schools like the CIA (Culinary Institue of America) which may be considered "vocational" schools. and high quality nursing and nurse aid schools. I think you need to be more specific about what area you are interested in, but recognize that there are really high quality career schools all over the country. (you have to look out for the schools that advertize heavily however. some of them are not legit or have unethical practices.) Check out the community colleges in your area. Many community colleges are very strong in career areas,
