I recently took a tour of Dartmouth and absolutely loved the campus and atmosphere of the college. I could definitely see myself there and really want to go there. Unfortunately, I don't think I really have the qualifications to make it, so if I do apply it would definitely be a reach. I have a 3.6 gpa, got a 2030 on my SATS (690 writing, 750 reading, and 590 math. I suck at math, and that and science are what have always dragged my gpa down, so I'm gonna get a math tutor and try to boost my math scores and hopefully bring my gpa up a bit). I got a 720 on the u.s. history subject test, and a 760 on the literature. I took ap us history my junior year and got a five on the exam (my school offers very few ap courses, so i havent been able to take many, but I'm taking world history and english). For ECs Im a rep on student council, an editor on the school paper, tennis team captain, am a member of "link leaders" (a program where upper classmen help freshmen adjust to life at the high school), NHS, had a bunch of leadership conferences/scholarship programs, and work as a lifeguard at different pools depending on the time of year. Sorry this was so lengthy and please give me your honest opinion! Thanks!

What’s your class rank? Both your SAT score and your GPA are low. Also, is that GPA unweighted?

My class rank is 26th, I think. And that’s weighted. Unweighted its a 3.5. And my school doesnt weight aps any higher than honors.

I don’t know how many people are in your class.

Oops, sorry. There are 200 kids in my class. And i forgot to mention it in my original post, but my great-grandfather, grandfather, two of my uncles, and two of my cousins went to Dartmouth, but I don’t think legacy is a very big factor at Dartmouth.

Is Dartmouth truly your number one? And your not going to apply to every other Ivy just to apply to the ivies? Then definitely send an application. Even if you know that you’ll be rejected if you have the $55 or whatever the cost is, then it’s worth the crap shoot, you never know how your application can be viewed.

Yeah, Dartmouth’s the only ivy im considering. BC is my more realistic choice, but I’d prefer Dartmotuh over it. And i figured pretty much the same thing, cant hurt to try. Thanks for the aadvice!

You will definitely NOT get in if you don’t apply. Don’t spend time in the future wondering “what if?”.

Read page 8. Essays and recs are “very important,” and those are two factors you still have to do. Work hard and best of luck!

Legacy is very important at Dartmouth, but only a parent will make you one. If grandparents or uncles give big donations and go to bat for you, you would be a development candidate.

Dartmouth is probably an unrealistic reach. Over 40% of every class were Val or sal- that"s most unhooked candidates. The median SAT score is over 2200. Chances of an unhooked candidate below top 10% and with a below median SAT getting in would be remote.

i would say that remote chance is worth the application fee. Go ahead and apply. Good luck

Unless you have a hook, your chances are really low, but they are zero if you don’t apply. IMO BC is a reach as well.
