Should I bother applying to williams?

I like williams a lot. My only concerns are that there is a lot of drinking, the work is extremely hard, and the school is dominated by varsity athletes. Although this might be exaggerated. Besides these things, and they aren't that huge of a deal, I really like Williams.

I read that if your SAT is not over 2100 then you don't really have a chance, and also if your SAT subject tests are not both over 700.
My SAT is 2080 (math:660 reading:680 writing:740) and my SAT Bio is 770 and SAT Lit is 650 .... :(

I wouldn't say I am an incredible student. I currently rank 8th out of 132 students in my class. All A's, but I struggled a bit fresh and soph year with grades due to illness.

Positive aspects of my application – I think I wrote a good common app essay, my ECs are pretty decent, I think have good recs. I am also submitting an art supplement (if I do apply).

Another obstacle is their supplemental essay. I am stuck. It would be nice if I could know now if I am going to be rejected, and then not have to bother!
Well, what do you think?

Gonna be honest… it doesn’t matter how much you like or don’t like Williams. Your stats are very low, and it doesn’t sound like you are hooked (athlete, URM, legacy, etc.). Your CR score is under the 25% mark, and M is right at the 25% mark. It would be highly unlikely that you will be admitted.

Okay, thank you for your input!

Intparent makes a good point, however, if you really love Williams you have very little to lose by applying. What specifically do you like about Williams (I only saw reasons NOT to go there in your post.) Truth is your best shot to gain admission is to convince the admissions committee that you belong and will thrive if admitted. I am not sure you are convinced .

Agree with Singersdad. Sending an application to most colleges costs roughly what a nice dinner costs. You are being realistic going in, so go ahead and apply. We visited Williams and it did seem that athletes are important but given the stats profile of admitted classes you would think the primary focus is academics not drinking or sports. 8th out of 132 in your class is very, very good particularly if it’s trending up. From what I gather the academics at Williams are more personal with 2 on 1 tutorials but not intense in the same way say Swarthmore might be.

Not sure if I’m super late or not, but you should definitely apply. I got accepted to Williams with much lower stats. Don’t let sites like these get you down, the reality is 99.9% of the people on these sites aren’t admissions officers and have no idea what goes through their minds. Schools don’t solely focus on your stats but who you are. I didn’t have a “hook” and was still accepted.
