I take AP United States Government at school and really enjoy the class/subject. I'm interested in possibly taking the AP Comparative Gov exam. I'm interested in the subject and it relates to the possible fields I would like to study in college. This year will be my first year taking any AP Exam. I have the time to prepare for the exam but ofcourse I'm a little nervous that I might waste $100+ on the test and prep books and just end up doing bad on the exam. Should I give it a shot? Is self-studying APs really worth it? Does it really help at all with college admissions? As far as AP classes go, my school has a lot it's just that I'm specifically interested in this field. Sophomores can only take one AP at my school if that matters in relation to this thread.

Anyone…?

why can you not wait until junior or senior year to take it?

The course is not offered at my school.

oh

then i would self study, as long as it’s just this class. if this subject interests you, then colleges will be happy that you’ve tried to advance your knowledge despite what your school offers. just don’t let it consume too much time, because there are better things to do with your time imo

Check if the colleges you’re considering offer credit for that AP, and what score they require.
