Should I bring a car?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of having a car on campus? I'm not sure whether or not to bring one.

Adavantages: more people will want to be your friend, all the normal advantages of having a car.

Disadvantages: no parking for driving to class, limited parking--period, expensive parking permit.

To me it would seem more of a hastle than a blessing, at least as a freshman, but this years rising sophomores would have first hand advice.

i would not recommend that you bring a car. Parking at cornell is horrible. It'lls be to much of a hassle.

If you can afford to bring a car, I don't see why you shouldn't. The only real disadvantage is the cost, and if that is no object, then there is nothing to stop you. No, you can't drive to class, but there is always room in the north campus lots to park it in, and, hey, even if you only use it once a week to go to the mall or downtown, then it saved you some hassle, right? But if money's an issue, then having a car on campus isn't worth the cost of sacrificing elsewhere financially.

actually, perro just wants to bum rides from you, perfectfourth

That's funny.

Nah, actually i'll have a car next year for sure, so I'll be the one giving the rides.

how much is the parking permit?

over $500/year

Bring a car, we can be best friends :)

i didn't have a car freshman year and brought my car up sophomore year and i can tell you it's definately nice to have a car. The buses are a pain in the ass and it gets annoying to have to bumb a ride everytime you wanna hit up the mall, commons, wegmans, etc. it's not necessary, but if you can afford it, i recommend it

NO DONT BRING IT, because you'll get a free parking pass haha. see the cornell sun or the nearby thread for details
