I submitted my essays on the 1st of November, but it says that they received it on the 2nd of November and I haven't heard from them yet while my friends have. This is complete nonsense, I submit the essays on the 1st yet they say they receive it on the 2nd thus delaying my acceptance/rejection process. Should I call to straighten things out? Btw, the 1st was the Priority Deadline and I applied priority

Didn’t you submit the essays electronically? If so, should there be a reply with time stamp? This is serious. I assume you are applying for EA? Missing that deadline means you are applying for RD.

Colleges are pretty serious about their deadlines. If you can’t prove your story, most of the top colleges will simply reject you. They get tons of over qualified students and they are looking for any excuse to deny you. BTW, UofI is a pretty competitive school last I checked. You should write them, call them and if you are close-by, drive up and talk to them.

Years ago when apps and essays are submitted in mail (or in person), I remember someone drove 400 miles to hand deliver his essays directly into the hands of the administration and he even asked for a written acknowledgment. He even recounted his story to the admission office and they were really impressed with his effort. And yes, he got into that great college.
