Should I change computer science major from packaging major?

Hello,

I’m community college student and got accept to Cal Poly SLO as Industrial technology and packaging major.
However, I feel like I want to learn about Computer science than Packaging now which means not I don’t want to study packaging.
If I changed major, I would study one more year at community college.
What do you think? Should I change major or Shouldn’t change major?
Could you give me some advice for me?

Thank you,

CS classes are sequential, you must take them one after the other. The sequence is likely to take you 4 semesters (you could start this summer).

@MYOS1634 so do you think CS is better than packaging?

It depends for whom, for what.
Have you taken calculus, discrete math, Logic? Do you have programming experience?

@MYOS1634
I’ve taken only calculus.
Yes, but I’m a true beginner.

Why CS then?
True beginners are at a huge disadvantage in CS classes with many students with lots of experience.
I’d say, stick to packaging, perhaps add a class in cs/information technology as electives if you want to see how you like it.

@MYOS1634
I’d like to be a software engineer, developer.

Hmmmm… Are you ready to spend two more years in CC? If so, is it practical, feasible, and affordable?

@MYOS1634 Do I need to stay two more years? I think I need one more year.
because I checked some university’s requirement, and I need 6 to 7 classes to transfer as CS major.

two Physics class ( I could take them if I finished Cal2)

three to four math class ( Cal 2,3 Linear Discrete)
two to three CS class

What do you think?

What CS classes?
Are you in calc1 right now?

@MYOS1634
Computer Programming
I’ve already done with cal 1.

I meant, what exact classes - I’m surprised you’d only have to take 2-3, the CC pre reqs I know are 4 as a minimum and you can take them 2+2 but it’s very difficult and time consuming, it’d be very difficult to take Calc 2+3 AND Discrete math at the same time. The fastest I can see it going is 3 semesters.
