I am absolutely in love with the University of Miami (I live in New Jersey) but they don't have as strong connections in the journalism field as Fordham University in NYC. I really didn't feel like I belonged at Fordham but I tried to force myself to like it because it's close to home and has great internships. Miami doesn't necessarily have a bad journalism program, just not as many connections or prominent alumni. Do I choose the school that it's my heart or the school that could potentially better my life after college?

How are you certain about the journalism connections at either schools? You can’t judge based on prominent alum. Have you met with or spoken to the career centers at either school? How many of their journalism graduates are either working in their field or are enrolled in graduate programs? Do the internships lead to guaranteed jobs? Are the internships diversified as print media sadly is disappearing. Are you able to double
major at both schools? Does either or both schools offer an interdisciplinary approach?

I would definitely choose the one I liked better and felt more at home at. Like you said, UMiami doesn’t have a bad journalism program at all; the alumni connections are likely just fine to get you into the journalism field, and those aren’t the only determinants of getting a good job in that field anyway.
