I have seen clips of the D2s preseason workout and they have already started working out and lifting weights (the girls that are on campus)
I don’t remember your sport, and since I don’t know the schools involved, have no idea whether you have a chance or not. My daughter plays at a D2 school. Her team is heading to the NCAA tournament, so they are still practicing and their coach is still consumed with this year and not recruiting right now. I know she still wants more players for next year, but just doesn’t have time right now to deal with recruiting. But that’s her sport. The golf and tennis and rowing teams may be full and those coaches not looking anymore. The softball team may need a catcher but not first basemen. It is different in every school, every sport.
You need to evaluate the 3 schools and the 3 offers. It sounds like you don’t want to go to the NAIA school, so don’t. Don’t start there and make a transfer complicated. Save your year of eligibility. I’ll tell you though, that the NAIA schools sometimes have more money to give out… My daughter has one of the biggest scholarships on her team, and it is less than half tuition. Most of her teammates have 1/4 of tuition. Some then have merit scholarships or state aid, Pell grants, loans, GI BIll benefits, but almost ALL pay something out of pocket, and it’s a lot more than $1600. In most cases you won’t be able to take school need based grants and athletic money at an NCAA school. NAIA has different rules about combining types of aid. Make sure you understand all the offers and what is included, how much in loans, what you’ll have to pay now.

@takeitallin I have to apply to the d2 by August 2nd
@tiny294 Definitely call the D2 coach. It really depends on the school- some D2’s have finished recruiting on the same timeline as D1’s, but others may still be recruiting. I’m not familiar with basketball, as my son plays D2 soccer. I like that you are familiar with the playing style of the teams you are interested in and coaches like that too. They can see that you are not just blindly calling coaches, but that you have taken time to look at their team and see that you are a fit. When you call, keep it short and to the point. My name is ___, and I currently play BB at (school/program). I am very interested in playing for your 2017/18 team. I feel I would be a good fit as I play in a similar style to your team (you can elaborate here a bit). If you have until August to apply, there is no reason not to pursue this team to see if there is interest in you. Just keep in mind that while the D2 team may still have some slots, it is unlikely that they still have scholarship money at this point. They most likely use it to pull in top recruits earlier in the whole process. For that reason, the NAIA school might be a good option due to the low cost to attend. The JUCO might also be a good option due to low cost. Give the JUCO coach a couple of days after he comes to watch you and then give him a call also to gauge his interest. Best of luck!
A juco or D2 coach can probably get application deadlines waived. I saw it happen to a D2 golfer a year or 2 ago. He had been recruited, but never made it to the top of their list. He had a short list of where he wanted to go to school, and had resigned himself to being done with competitive golf. Then the week before classes started something fell through on one of the D2 coach’s recruits. That coach got him admitted and registered for classes, and a week later he was sitting in class. It might not happen everywhere, but I’m guessing it can at quite a few D2’s and Jucos. This isn’t getting backdoored into Harvard, most of them have open or nearly open admission anyway.
Did he get any scholarship money?
@takeitallin I called the assistant coach and left a voicemail.
for fairmont
Update : Fairmont assistant has not called back…They haven’t responded to anything so I’ll just leave it alone. I’m going to wait for the JUCO to come and see me next week before I make a decision.
@tiny294 I don’t know. I’m guessing he got something, otherwise I don’t know why he would have switched schools at the last minute.
probably…and i called both fairmont coaches and it went to voicemail @dadof4kids
Of course it went to voicemail. Do you think coaches list their personal numbers so they could get a million calls every day? It was the weekend, the season is over, they aren’t going into the office.
Have you had any contact with Fairmont or do you just HOPE to go there? I think you are better off with the colleges that have contacted you, of taking the offers you have. If all the schools have done is open a recruiting profile, it is unlikely you have a shot for this year. If it is really your first choice to go to Fairmont, you may have to take a gap year but there is no guarantee next year will be any different.
I was just hoping to get into touch. I didn’t think it could be an office number me no a cell phone number
